Upon the completion of the residency program, the participants will undergo a 3-week practical session to enable them implement their skills. SUMMARY
Fresh Direct Produce and Agro-Allied Services is an agricultural production and processing company. We provide exquisitely grown organic fruits, vegetables and meats and processed end products. We bring together communities and advanced technology to improve agricultural yields for sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprises. As an indigenous social enterprise, we are the pioneer producer of hydroponic farming technology in Nigeria. We manufacture, install and market customised hydroponic systems, greenhouses and container farms to help smaller farmers be more sustainable and more effective, both in terms of cost and yield production.

IMPACT

Agriculture is typically land intensive, involves high losses and can be risky for farmers to compete effectively. Our technology lowers the barrier to entry, therefore removing the risk-factor from the sector through use of hydroponics and containerised vertical farming. This means we can grow on 10 times less land using 10 times less water and less inputs, yet still guarantee 15 times higher yields. Our modern, innovative farming technology is resilient to climate change, provides superior nutritional value, faster growth and brings sustainable food production technology to Nigeria, at a time when food security, poverty and migration are persistent issues. We also guarantee off-take from financed local farmers who buy our technology, giving them access to markets to repay their loans faster.
WHAT WE NEED
We need funds to trademark and patent our brand and technology, which includes two greenhouses, four hydroponic systems and two container farms. Additionally, we want to scale up to 50 containers in the Lagos Container Farm, 50 Containers in the Abuja Container farm, and 15 additional greenhouses in our Farm Headquarters in Osun. The Venture funding would also help us scale up employment, production and our distribution network. We would be able to provide 926.4 tonnes of lettuce, 285.9 tonnes of tomatoes, 133.4 tonnes of cucumber and 95.3 tonnes of peppers with a total farm revenue of USD $1,742,190 USD in a year – and 100 40ft Container Farms, 125 20ft Container Farms, 20 greenhouses, and 50 hydroponic systems, with a total technology revenue of $1,086,956 USD.
THE TEAM
Angel Adelaja is the founder and CEO of Fresh Direct and she will also be representing us at The Venture Final. She trained as an Epidemiologist, and has always had a love for agriculture and promoting the opportunities available within this sector in Africa. She has served as Technical Assistant and Research Consultant to the Director General of the Office of Economic Development and the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Wealth Creation. In these roles, she pushed for programs that funnel youth into emerging sectors, especially agriculture. Alongside Angel is Gbyega Osbou, who is Head of Government Operations and Land Management and has a degree in Agriculture and a Masters in Land Management. Tunji Kamson is our Chief Distribution Officer and Efe Santos is our Manufacturing Design Manager. Tunde Olarewanju is our Farm Manager, who is assisted by Maudline Nneka Utaka.

Work Mode with Brown Uzoukwu: 6 Reasons Why Young Graduates Should Embrace Marketing Jobs

At the mention of a marketing job, an average Nigerian job seeker shuts down. In fact, for most young career persons, a marketing job offer is no offer at all.
Anyway, before I start rolling, it is important I carry all our readers along. In most quarters in Nigeria, we refer to sales representatives or sales agents as marketers. Although, technically, marketing and selling are two different phenomenon, but for the purposes of this piece, permit me to use them interchangeably. Just have it at the back of your mind that when I say marketing jobs, I am referring to sales jobs.
I have come across lots of young professionals who wouldn’t dare touch a marketing job offer even with the longest pole. Don’t even mention it to them, or else they will blacklist your company as one of the most insensitive and inhumane recruitment firm. Understandably though, there are various reasons while most young professionals hate marketing jobs. Top on the list of their reasons includes unrealistic sales targets, commission- based remuneration (everyone prefers a salary at the end of the month whether they sell or not), field-induced stress.
However, I still believe that marketing jobs are the bomb because of its gains and prospects and no matter how much we try to avoid it, we are all selling something. Personally, I am building a career as a workforce trainer and career coach, but I still do lots of selling and I am still open to new challenges provided it is a product or service I would really love to sell.
Yes, I love marketing (selling) jobs, but even at that, I can’t sell everything. I choose my products. I sell the things I love and that is why I succeed in it. Most people fail as sales agents because they want to sell everything.
You want to sell pension. You want to sell banking services. You want to sell insurance. You want to sell real estate. You want to sell pharmaceutical products. You want to sell FMCGs. You want to sell telecommunication. You want to sell cars. You want to sell food supplements. You have tried to sell everything. No, it doesn’t work like that for everybody. Marketing is a rewarding thing to do if only you choose a product you love, a product you know and a product you have the market for and sell it. You will love it.
Marketing jobs are the bomb. It all depends on what you are selling and how you are selling it. Most people make marketing look tedious the way they do it. It is not all about getting yourself engrossed in activity and being busy. There is more to marketing (selling) than just hitting the road or an area without any plan and start harassing people from one office to another. No. Marketing is not all about dissipating energy unnecessarily and getting stressed out. If you learn the ropes of effective selling, you will agree with me that marketing jobs are the bomb.
Here are a few reasons why I strongly recommend a marketing job any day.
1. Marketing jobs are readily available in the labour market.
I am yet to find a company that will say no to you if you walk up to them with an offer of helping them improve sales irrespective of your qualification. Bottom line is the major reason why companies are in business in the first place and anybody who can help in improving that is given an opportunity to do so. A company can never have excess of sales persons (marketers). In case you are yet to secure a job, the quickest way to end your job search is to step out tomorrow as a sales dude.
2. It’s only a marketing job that gives you a stake in the company you are working for.
There is no limit to how much you can earn. All the biggest boys you know in the banking and telecommunication industry are bad sales dudes. Same applies to every other sector. Smart dudes still find a way to get involve in selling their company’s products or services even when their portfolio does not include selling. Selling doesn’t just get you more money, it also helps you climb the corporate ladder faster.
3. Marketing jobs provides you with a platform of building a strong contact list.
One mistake people make is that they think that marketing has been completed when you close a deal or make a sale. No. Even when somebody did not buy, establish a relationship. You might find the relationship handy someday. I can attest to the magic a quality relationship can perform.
4. No matter how bad the economy is looking, business organizations do not retrench their performing sales dudes. Every other person might go, but not the guys who are pushing the company’s product. So, your job security is guaranteed as a good marketer. You can never be an excess to requirement.
5. Most marketing jobs are very flexible.
They afford you ample time to pursue other personal agenda and interests. It is not usually like the typical 9 to 5 jobs that keep you stereotyped. You can have other business interests, you can also further your education or find enough time for your loved ones.
6. Finally, if you don’t like marketing, then this talk about being your own boss is not something you should consider because you will not succeed. Marketing jobs builds your entrepreneurship abilities and experience. If you can successfully sell another person’s product, then you can perfectly sell yours. Selling helps to develop our entrepreneurial gusto, drive and confidence.
I believe you can excel and flourish as a sales person even if people around you have lots of bad experiences to share about it. Choose your products rightly and give it your best shot and you will thank me later.
Have a great day and stay productive.
